Historical friend and advisor to the American patron Peggy Guggenheim, Marcel Duchamp (1887 - 1968) is the protagonist of the important exhibition curated by Paul B. Franklin for the prestigious Museum on the Grand Canal. The exhibition brings together around sixty emblematic artworks, created between 1911 and 1968 and coming both from the Peggy Guggenheim Collection, such as Nude (Sketch), Sad Young Man on a Train (1911) and Box in a Suitcase (1935-1941), and from various important Italian and American museum institutions, including the National Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome, the Philadelphia Museum of Art, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum in New York. Alongside this precious selection of works, a series of works less known to the general public belonging to the artist's Estate and private collections are also on display. Around half of the works on display also come from the authoritative Venetian collection of Attilio Codognato, a visionary collector of the French artist since the early 1970s.
