LABINAC, Echoes of the Forest | © LABINAC e Venice Gardens Foundation
Presented by the Venice Gardens Foundation on the occasion of the 17th Venice Architecture Biennale, the Echoes of the Forest project by the LABINAC design collective, composed of artists Maria Thereza Alves and Jimmie Durham, animates the evocative spaces of the Greenhouse of the Royal Gardens of Venice The Human Garden, in 2019 returned to their splendor by an important four-year restoration promoted and curated by the Venice Gardens Foundation. LABINAC's "forest" consists of a selection of design works, which include thirty tables specially designed for the site by the two artists. The tables, donated by Alves and Durham to the Venice Gardens Foundation, will remain as a permanent site-specific installation at the even after the conclusion of the Biennale. On display also eight vases by Maria Thereza Alves from the Cloudstone, Perfectly Imperfect, Allelic Combinations and Forms of Life series, all are unique pieces, made in different glass laboratories and through a process of experimentation between the artist and master glassmakers. Also exhibited is a chandelier in steel and fragments of Murano glass by Jimmie Durham, inspired by trees and the effect of light on leaves and broken glass.
