The Venetian headquarters of EMERGENCY on the Giudecca hosts the touching reportage of the award-winning photojournalist and reporter Monika Bulaj, crossing Africa from the Atlantic, passing through Lake Victoria, up to the Red Sea, stopping in the places of the projects of the ANME (African Network of Medical Excellence), the EMERGENCY health network created with the aim of building free medical centers of excellence throughout the continent. Monika Bulaj's shots in Sierra Leone, Uganda, Sudan tell the stories of sick people, doctors, nurses, technicians, administrators, gardeners grappling with the countless challenges of daily life between endemic misfortunes and often predictable emergencies. From Sierra Leone to Uganda and Sudan, Bulaj's photographs testify to the fundamental role of the various centers that make up the EMERGENCY network on the African continent, including the Salam Heart Surgery Center in Khartoum, Sudan, and the Pediatric Surgery Center of Entebbe, designed by Renzo Piano in Uganda. These hospitals welcome free of charge patients from all over the continent with specific pathologies that are difficult to treat elsewhere. The activities of the Port Sudan Pediatric Center and the Mayo Pediatric Center are co-financed by the European Union, while the activities of the Goderich Surgical Center are co-financed by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation.
