Territorial Agency: Oceans in Transformation

Reykjanes Ridge Multibeam Sonar Sound in the Atlantic Ocean | © Territorial Agency: Oceans in Transformation is commissioned by TBA21 – Academy

The exhibition, born from a three-year interdisciplinary research and commissioned by TBA21 – Academy a Territorial Agency, follows the seven spatial trajectories underlying the research of Oceans in Transformation, from the North Sea to the Red Sea, the Mid Atlantic, the Gulf Stream, the Equatorial Pacific, Metropolitan Asia, the Indian Ocean Vortex and the Humboldt Current, along which John Palmesino and Ann-Sofi Rönnskog trace the interconnections of environmental and economic processes taking place in the oceans, constantly threatened by human activities such as intensive fishing, deep-sea mining and other forms of extraction and pollution, which modify its currents, energies and ecology. Ocean Space, the artistic, research, awareness and support forum for the oceans, opened in 2019 and led in Venice by TBA21 – Academy, is now more than ever an important player in the international debate on the impact of human activity on the oceans, also given the consequences of last year's exceptional high water.
