The Skin of Glass. Carlo Scarpa at Venini 1936-1942

The Skin of Glass. Carlo Scarpa at Venini 1936-1942, Negozio Olivetti, Venice

The exhibition presented by FAI – Fondo Ambiente Italiano for The Venice Glass Week 2018 offers the public a selection of rare objects designed by Carlo Scarpa, during his collaboration with Venini in the role of artistic director until 1947. The exhibition explores the glass productions of the famed Venetian architect placed in perfect harmony with the location of the Negozio Olivetti, designed by Scarpa himself in 1958 on a commission by Adriano Olivetti. The fifteen pieces on display - such as vases and bowls, all from private collections - precisely show Scarpa’s work methods, characterised, not only by his seeking to perfect the traditional Venetian methods of production, but, above all, in trying to evolve these methods, a constant balance of aesthetic elegance and technical development.
